Oscar Arnulfo Romero was born in El Salvador in 1917 and was ordained a priest in 1942.

Appointed archbishop of San Salvador in 1977, he defended the poor and denounced violence during the civil war.

He preached that the Church must be the voice of the voiceless and accompany those who suffer injustice.

Assassinated while celebrating Mass on March 24, 1980.

Beatified in 2015 and canonized in 2018. His feast is March 24. He is invoked for social justice and Church shepherds.
