Deacon and martyr of Rome, symbol of charity to the poor — feast on August 10.
Saint Lawrence was one of the seven deacons of Rome in the third century, responsible for Church goods and care of the poor.
During Valerian's persecution, he presented the needy as the Church's true treasures before the emperor.
He was condemned and martyred on a burning grid, witnessing joy in total surrender to Christ.
His heroic death strengthened the faith of Roman Christians and spread devotion to charity as the Church's wealth.
His liturgical feast is August 10. He is invoked by those who serve the poor, exercise the diaconate, and seek fidelity unto death.
