Saint Kilian
Feast day: July 8
Irish missionary, martyr in Franconia, evangelizer of Würzburg.
Kilian was born in Ireland around 640 and was ordained a missionary bishop.
With companions Colmán and Totnán, he set out to evangelize the Franconian region.
He preached the Gospel in Würzburg and converted Duke Gozbert, though he denounced the duke's irregular union.
He was martyred with his companions around 689, by order of Duchess Geilana.
He is patron of Würzburg and the diocese. Liturgical feast: July 8.
