Founder of the Vallombrosans, saint of forgiveness and reconciliation.

John Gualbert was born in Florence around 985, into a noble family.
After his brother's death, he forgave the killer on Easter Day — an episode that marked his conversion.
He left worldly life, founded the monastery of Vallombrosa and the Vallombrosan congregation.
He promoted monastic reform, social peace, and mercy toward enemies.
He died on July 12, 1073. Liturgical feast: July 12.
