Saint Florian

Feast day: May 4

Martyr and patron of firefighters — feast on May 4.

Saint Florian, martyr and patron of firefighters

Saint Florian was a Roman official in the third century, converted to Christianity.

Tradition holds he saved a city from fire with a single jar of water.

He refused to renounce the faith and was martyred by being thrown into a river with a stone tied to his neck.

He became patron of firefighters, chimneys, and those who fight fires.

His liturgical feast is May 4. He is invoked for protection from fire and courage in service.

Dedicated prayer

To the martyr and patron of firefighters, we ask protection from fire and courage in service to others.
