Saint Cajetan (Gaetano Thiene) was born in Vicenza, Italy, in 1480, and devoted himself to the priesthood with deep zeal for ecclesial reform.
He founded the Congregation of Clerics Regular (Theatines), seeking holiness in pastoral ministry and concrete charity.
He preached trust in divine Providence and help for the poor, sick, and unemployed — devotion that spread especially in Latin America.
He died in Naples in 1547. Canonized in 1671. He is invoked by those seeking honest work, family provision, and trust in God.
His liturgical feast is August 7. In Argentina and other Hispanic-American countries, San Cayetán draws one of the largest popular devotions for employment and daily bread.
