Saint Agatha

Feast day: February 5

Virgin and martyr of Catania, Sicily — feast on February 5.

Saint Agatha, virgin and martyr, devotional painting

Saint Agatha was born in Catania, Sicily, in the third century, and consecrated herself to God from youth.

She rejected the proposals of the consul Quintian and chose death over unfaithfulness to Christ.

She endured cruel martyrdom and became one of the most venerated saints of early Christianity.

Her devotion spread through Italy, Malta, and the entire Catholic world.

Her liturgical feast is February 5. She is invoked for purity, courage, and help for the sick.

Dedicated prayer

To the virgin and martyr of Catania, we ask purity, courage, and help in illness, especially of the breast.
