To the protomartyr who imitated Christ unto death, we ask courage in faith and intercession with God.

Grant, Lord, we pray, that we may imitate what we worship, and so learn to love even our enemies, for we celebrate the heavenly birthday of a man who knew how to pray even for his persecutors (mention your request).
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

On December 26 (Feast of Saint Stephen), in times of trial for the faith, or when seeking the example of the first Christian martyr.
