Advent Novena

Pray one day at a time for nine consecutive days (ideally December 16–24), asking for Christ's coming. --- FIRST DAY — Mary, Mother of Advent O Virgin of Advent, Mother of the Savior we await, pray for us that we may worthily prepare our hearts for the coming of your Son. Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha! Amen. --- SECOND DAY — O Wisdom O Wisdom, coming forth from the mouth of the Most High, reaching from one end to the other, mightily and sweetly ordering all things, come and teach us the way of prudence. Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha! Amen. --- THIRD DAY — O Lord O Lord and Ruler of the house of Israel, who appeared to Moses in the burning bush and gave him the law on Sinai, come and redeem us with outstretched arm. Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha! Amen. --- FOURTH DAY — O Root of Jesse O Root of Jesse, standing as a sign before the peoples, before you kings shall be silent and nations shall invoke your Name, come to deliver us, delay no longer. Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha! Amen. --- FIFTH DAY — O Key of David O Key of David and Scepter of the house of Israel, you open and no one shuts, you shut and no one opens, come and lead from prison those who sit in darkness and shadow of death. Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha! Amen. --- SIXTH DAY — O Rising Sun O Rising Sun, splendor of eternal light and sun of justice, come and enlighten those who sit in darkness and shadow of death. Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha! Amen. --- SEVENTH DAY — O King of Nations O King of Nations, cornerstone who unites the two peoples, come and save mankind whom you formed from the dust of the earth. Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha! Amen. --- EIGHTH DAY — O Emmanuel O Emmanuel, our King and Lawgiver, hope of the nations and their Savior, come and save us, Lord our God. Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha! Amen. --- NINTH DAY — Christmas Eve O eternal Word of the Father, who today are born of the Virgin Mary, deign also to be born in our hearts and make your peace dwell among us. Come, Lord Jesus!
