Apostle of charity, founder of the Daughters of Charity and the Vincentians.
Vincent de Paul was born in 1581 in France into a poor peasant family.
Ordained a priest, he initially pursued an ecclesiastical career, but a profound conversion changed his path.
He organized systematic service to the poor, sick, and orphans throughout seventeenth-century France.
He founded the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) in 1625 and the Daughters of Charity in 1633 with St. Louise de Marillac.
He created seminaries and charity confraternities that transformed the Church's social pastoral care.
He died on September 27, 1660. Canonized in 1737. His liturgical feast is September 27.
