Turibius Alfonso de Mogrovejo was born in Spain in 1538 and was appointed archbishop of Lima in 1580.
He traveled extensively across Peru on foot, confirming and catechizing, including Saint Rose of Lima and Saint Martin de Porres.
He convened the Third Provincial Council of Lima (1582–1583), a milestone of pastoral reform in the Americas.
He defended indigenous peoples against abuse and promoted seminaries and parishes.
He died in 1606. Canonized in 1726. His feast is March 23. He is invoked for bishops, missionaries, and Church renewal.
