Amabile Lucia Visintainer was born in Italy in 1865 and emigrated to Brazil as a child.
She founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Santa Catarina.
She lived extreme humility, illness, and charity toward the poor and sick.
She died in 1942. Beatified in 1991 and canonized by John Paul II in 2002 — Brazil's first saint.
Her liturgical feast is July 9. She is invoked for the sick, educators, and families.
