Saint Nicholas of Tolentino
Feast day: September 10
Augustinian and advocate of souls in purgatory.
Nicholas was born in 1245 in Sant'Angelo, Italy. He entered the Order of Hermits of St. Augustine and lived forty years at the Tolentino convent.
He devoted himself to preaching, confessions, and charity, feeding the poor and visiting the sick with extraordinary compassion.
Tradition tells of visions of purgatory and numerous graces obtained for souls through his intercession and reparatory prayers.
He lived in great penance and contemplation, uniting popular preaching with deep mystical life.
He died on September 10, 1305. His body rests at the Tolentino shrine, a center of devotion for souls in purgatory.
He was canonized in 1446 by Eugene IV. His liturgical feast is September 10.
