Mariana de Jesus Paredes was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1618, into a noble family.
She lived a penitential life from youth, dedicating herself to prayer and charity to the poor.
She offered her life for the conversion of Ecuador and the peace of the city of Quito.
She died in 1645, at age 27. Beatified in 1850 and canonized in 1950 — Ecuador's first saint.
Her liturgical feast is May 28. She is invoked for penance, charity, and trust in Providence.
