Saint Lawrence of Brindisi

Doctor of the Church, Capuchin preacher, master of Scripture and mission.
Giulio Cesare Russo was born on July 22, 1559, in Brindisi, Italy. He entered the Capuchins and took the name Lawrence.
He mastered many languages and Sacred Scripture, preaching with extraordinary zeal across Europe.
He served as minister general of the order and papal ambassador on diplomatic missions.
Author of many theological and Marian works. He died on July 22, 1619, in Lisbon.
Canonized in 1881 and declared Doctor of the Church in 1959. Liturgical feast: July 21.
