Katharine Drexel was born in Philadelphia in 1858, daughter of a wealthy banker.
She dedicated her fortune and life to the poor, founding the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament.
She established schools for Native and African American peoples in several US states.
She lived prayer, voluntary poverty, and defense of human dignity.
Beatified in 1988 and canonized in 2000. Her feast is March 3. She is invoked for education and social justice.
