Saint Juan Diego

Feast day: December 9

Visionary of Guadalupe — feast on December 9.

Saint Juan Diego, visionary of Guadalupe

Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin was born around 1474, an indigenous man from the Tepeyac region in Mexico.

In December 1531, Our Lady appeared to him asking for a shrine to be built.

He presented his tilma to the bishop; the image of the Virgin was imprinted on the cloth.

He lived humility and obedience, serving as messenger of the Mother of God.

Beatified in 1990 and canonized by John Paul II in 2002. His feast is December 9.
