Saint Joseph the Worker
Feast day: May 1
Guardian of Nazareth, patron of workers and model of honest labor.
Saint Joseph, spouse of the Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus, supported the Holy Family through the trade of carpentry.
Silent and faithful, he obeyed the angels who guided him to Egypt and back to Nazareth, protecting the Child.
Pius XII established the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker on May 1, 1955, offering workers a saintly model.
The Church venerates him as patron of the universal Church and special protector of laborers and artisans.
His example teaches that manual work, offered to God, sanctifies whoever performs it with love.
His feast as Worker is May 1; he is also celebrated on March 19 as spouse of Mary.
