Orações Milagrosas

Saint James the Greater

Feast day: July 25

Apostle of Christ, first martyr of Jerusalem, patron of pilgrims.

Saint James the Greater, painting by Guido Reni

James, son of Zebedee and brother of John, was called by Jesus with his brother — they were named «sons of thunder».

He belonged to the Lord's inner circle, present at decisive moments such as the Transfiguration.

He was the first apostle martyred, by order of Herod Agrippa I, around the year 44.

Tradition points to his evangelization in Hispania and his tomb at Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

His liturgical feast is July 25. He is invoked by pilgrims and those seeking courage in faith.

Dedicated prayer

To the apostle and pilgrim, we ask protection on journeys, courage in faith, and fidelity to Christ until the end.
