Saint Henry II

Holy Roman Emperor, Church reformer and model of Christian justice.

Henry was born in 973, son of Duke Henry of Bavaria.
He became duke, King of Germany, and in 1014 Holy Roman Emperor.
He married Saint Cunegunde in a chaste union, devoting himself to justice and ecclesiastical reform.
He founded cathedrals and monasteries, defended Church independence, and cared for the poor.
He died on July 13, 1024. Canonized in 1146. Liturgical feast: July 13.
