Saint Gerald of Aurillac

Converted nobleman, founder of Aurillac monastery, patron of expectant mothers.
Gerald was born around 855 in Aurillac, France, into a noble family. He lived a worldly youth until profound conversion led him to Christian life.
He founded the Benedictine monastery of Aurillac, which became a center of culture and monastic formation in the region.
He lived as a penitent and pilgrim, renouncing noble privileges to serve God and neighbor.
Tradition tells that when he fell from a cliff, he asked God to save the mother and unborn child — and both were preserved.
He died on October 13, 909. His life influenced St. Odilo of Cluny and medieval monastic renewal.
His liturgical feast is November 5. He is invoked by expectant mothers, childbirth, and protection of mothers.
