Saint Francis de Sales, bishop and Doctor of the Church

Francis de Sales was born in 1567 in the Duchy of Savoy, son of a noble family.

He became bishop of Geneva and devoted himself to reconverting Calvinists with gentleness and charity.

He wrote Introduction to the Devout Life and Treatise on the Love of God, classics of Catholic spirituality.

He founded the Visitation Order with St. Jane Frances de Chantal, opening a vocational path for women in fragile health.

Declared Doctor of the Church in 1877 with the title Doctor caritatis.

He died on December 28, 1622. His liturgical feast is January 24. He is patron of journalists.
