Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini

Feast day: November 13

Patroness of immigrants — feast on November 13.

Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, founder and patroness of immigrants

Maria Francesca Cabrini was born in Lombardy, Italy, in 1850, and founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Sent to the American continent, she dedicated her life to Italian immigrants and other migrants in the US and Latin America.

She founded schools, hospitals, and houses of welcome in many cities, crossing the Atlantic more than thirty times.

She died in Chicago in 1917. Beatified in 1938 and canonized in 1946 — the first US citizen declared a saint.

Her liturgical feast is November 13. She is invoked for immigrants, refugees, and service to the poor.
