Saint Dominic Savio

Feast day: March 9

Young Salesian of purity and joy — feast on March 9.

Saint Dominic Savio, young Salesian

Dominic Savio was born in 1842 in Riva di Chieri, Piedmont, into a humble and deeply Christian family.

He met Saint John Bosco in Turin and entered the Salesian Oratory, standing out for purity, joy, and service to companions.

He lived holiness in adolescence, helping other young people remain faithful to God.

He died in 1857 at only 14 years of age. Canonized by Pius XII in 1954, he became a model of youthful holiness.

His liturgical feast is March 9. He is invoked for children, teenagers, and students, especially in the Salesian world.

To the young Salesian of purity and joy, we ask holiness in adolescence and docility to the Holy Spirit.
