Cristobal Magallanes Jara was born in Jalisco, Mexico, in 1869, and was ordained a priest in 1899.
He founded clandestine seminaries during the religious persecution known as the Cristero War.
He defended freedom of worship and the formation of new priests under clandestine conditions.
He was shot in 1927, refusing to renounce his faith. Canonized in 2000 among the martyrs of Mexico.
His liturgical feast is May 21. He is invoked for priests, missionaries, and persecuted faithful.
