Saint Cecilia

Saint Cecilia lived in Rome in the third century, in a noble Christian family. Tradition holds that she consecrated herself to God from childhood and prayed while singing in her heart.

Forced to marry Valerian, she convinced her husband to respect her virginity and led him to faith in Christ, together with her brother Tiburtius.

The three were martyred for refusing to worship Roman idols. Cecilia faced torture while singing praises to God.

Tradition relates that at her wedding, while musicians played, she sang inwardly to the Lord, becoming a symbol of music at the service of the liturgy.

Her title as patroness of musicians was recognized by the Church, and the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome has perpetuated this devotion since the sixteenth century.

Her liturgical feast is celebrated on November 22. She is invoked by musicians, singers, and all who wish to praise God through art.
