Saint Camillus de Lellis

Founder of the Camillians, patron of nurses and the sick, model of hospital charity.
Camillus de Lellis was born on May 25, 1550, in Bucchianico, Kingdom of Naples. His youth was marked by family difficulties and a period as a soldier.
Deeply converted, he dedicated himself to caring for the sick in Rome's hospitals, where conditions were inhumane.
In 1582 he founded the Congregation of the Ministers of the Infirm — the Camillians — with the motto «More heart in the hands».
Ordained a priest, he organized hospital service with spiritual discipline and charity.
He died on July 14, 1614. Canonized in 1746. His liturgical feast is July 14. He is invoked for the sick, nurses, and healthcare workers.
