Saint Boniface, apostle of Germany and martyr

Saint Boniface was born in Wessex, England, around 675, named Winfrid.

He left comfortable monastic life to evangelize the peoples of Germany.

He became archbishop of Mainz, reformed the local Church, and organized Christian communities.

He died martyred in 754 in Friesland while proclaiming the Gospel.

His liturgical feast is June 5. He is invoked for missionaries, evangelizers, and Christian unity.
