Saint Bartholomew the Apostle

Feast day: August 24

Apostle who knew the truth of Christ — feast on August 24.

Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, painting by Rembrandt

Saint Bartholomew is one of the Twelve Apostles, traditionally identified with Nathanael, whom Philip led to Jesus.

John's Gospel highlights his sincerity: «Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.»

According to tradition, he preached the Gospel in India, Armenia, and other regions of the East.

He suffered martyrdom, often depicted in iconography with the flaying of skin — a symbol of total surrender.

His liturgical feast is August 24. He is invoked for mission, evangelization, and steadfastness in faith.
