Saint Anthony Mary Zaccaria

Physician and priest, founder of the Barnabites, promoter of Eucharistic renewal.
Anthony Mary Zaccaria was born in 1502 in Cremona, Lombardy.
He studied medicine and theology, becoming a doctor of the poor before priestly ordination.
He founded the Clerics Regular of St. Paul — the Barnabites — and the Angelic Sisters.
He promoted the Forty Hours devotion, Eucharistic piety, and renewal of Christian life amid sixteenth-century crisis.
He died on July 5, 1539, at only 36. Canonized in 1897. Liturgical feast: July 5.
